How It Works
A medicated sclerosing solution is first injected into affected blood vessels. Right away, this causes the veins to close and begins their reabsorption into the body. Multiple ten-minute sessions of this procedure may be needed for all unhealthy veins to be removed and achieve the ideal aesthetic result.

There is a variation of this procedure called duplex ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, in which ultrasound is basically used to map and visualize veins, allowing the doctor to track the injected sclerosant. For larger veins, foamed sclerosants are used because its thicker consistency and larger surface area displaces blood in affected veins and ensures maximum scelrosant action.
